Venessa Huskey isn’t a politician—she’s a servant leader. As the current 2nd District Legislator and Chair of the Justice & Law Enforcement Committee, she brings a rare combination of federal financial expertise and grassroots experience. This race isn’t about slogans or assumptions; it’s about who is ready to deliver results on day one.
A third-generation resident and UMKC graduate, Venessa spent 18 years at AT&T and served as a Program Analyst for the U.S. Treasury. She applied this financial discipline to co-sponsor the Senior Property Tax Credit, freezing taxes for residents 62 and older to protect them from rising assessments. While others talk about the tax crisis, Venessa is actively helping seniors navigate the application process to keep them in their homes.
Some campaigns rely on name recognition and political bravado, treating this seat like a prize to be claimed. But Jackson County’s challenges—from property taxes to public safety—are not "slam dunks." They are serious responsibilities that must be earned through work, not inherited through hype. Venessa’s record is built on showing up for neighborhoods long before campaign season began.
Jackson County cannot afford an on-the-job learning curve or a campaign built on shortcuts. We need a leader who understands the budget, knows the neighborhoods, and has already proven she can lead through a crisis.
Venessa Huskey: Experienced. Accessible. Accountable.
